ABOUT SMOO LODGE
Situated by the sea and close to the famous Smoo Cave, the former sporting lodge dates from 1790 and is one of the most iconic period properties in Durness, the most northwesterly village on the UK mainland. Set in nearly two acres of private grounds from which you can enjoy stunning views of the sea to the north, the mouth of Loch Eriboll, Whiten Head and the nearby hills of the Dionard valley to the east & south and westwards to Cape Wrath. Beautiful dry stone walls enclose the private guest parking & garden areas, with our paddock facing the sea set aside as a mini nature reserve.
Recently refurbished and furnished to a high standard throughout, the lodge offers a variety of comfortable and stylish B&B rooms, all with central heating, en-suite shower or bath & shower facilities, Hypnos beds, goose feather down pillows & duvets (hypo-allergenic alternatives are available upon request - 2 days notice please), with luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding & towels, Smart TVs with FreeSat & WiFi. Complimentary tea, coffee and toiletries are provided.

Our gorgeous lounge enjoys delightful views eastwards towards Smoo Cave, with moorland and the craggy pink rocks of Ceannabeinne forming a dramatic backdrop to the lush crofting land in the foreground. Original artworks by local artists and music from a classic hi-fi system help create a stimulating environment in which you can unwind from your long journey or wilderness walks. Plump chairs, a sumptuous velvet chaise longue and the homely warmth from the wood-burning stove await you.

We serve a full traditional Scottish and Continental breakfast between 8-9AM.

N.B. Please note that unfortunately, the property is not suitable for children under 12 or pets, and is, of course, a no-smoking environment, although smokers are very welcome to smoke in the garden.
Please note we do not offer evening meals, due to the extra covid-19 workload - cleaning & sanitising. There will though be several places that will be serving evening meals in Durness.

Check-in is from 4 PM* and Check-out is by 10 AM.
